JAN JACOB BREIN  /  AQUARELLISTE – PEINTRE – PORTRAITISTE 

Jan Jacob Brein (Nimègue 1931/Pays Bas) a développé son talent après sa formation particulièrement comme aquarelliste. Dans les années ’70 et ’80 il réalisa un ensemble d’oeuvres important et de grande qualité. Ce travail non seulement culminait dans un grand nombre d’expositions aux Pays Bas et à l’étranger (dont des expositions à Nimègue, Amsterdam, Paris, Mystic/USA, Osaka/Japon, Bruxelles, Vénise et Padoue/Italie…) mais il a également aboutit à de nombreuses acquisitions par des collections privées, des organismes publics et des entreprises. En 1990 fut publiée sa première monographie, traitant principalement des paysages qu’il avait peints en Europe. Plus récemment, après son installation en France, son travail s’élaborait dans une direction lyrique-abstraite, sans précédent en aquarelle. Tout cela trouva son apothéose dans une rétrospective imposante au Musée Henriette Polak à Zutphen/PB. en 2001. A cette occasion sa deuxième monographie fut éditée. Son oeuvre obtint aussi une appréciation internationale, au regard du grand nombre des prix prestigieux qui lui furent attribués, parmi lesquels, le plus important: le premier prix de l’exposition internationale tenue au Museo dell’ Aquarello à Albignasego en Italie en 2004, sur le thème “Hommage à Pétrarque”. Un initié l’a qualifié un beau jour comme “Le Turner du vingtième siècle”. Expositions à Lisbonne, Bilbao, Dublin, dans de nombreuses villes en France et lors de l’exposition internationale au Museo Nacional de la Acuarela à MexicoCity en 2002: il y représentait La France avec deux autres aquarellistes. Membre d’honneur de l’Institut Européen de l’Aquarelle à Bruxelles, il est également citoyen d’honneur de la Ville de Montgermont. Toute sa vie il s’intéressa au genre du portrait qui prenait indéniablement de plus en plus d’importance de 1950 jusqu’à nos jours. Il est l’auteur de 195 portraits à la peinture à l’huile, à l’aquarelle, en dessin, et dans plusieurs autres techniques. L’édition de sa troisième monographie sur le thème du “Portrait” s’était passée à Amsterdam, décembre 2010 à l’occasion de son 80ième anniversaire. Celle-ci formera alors la clef de voûte du triptyque avec les deux autres monographies déjà mentionnées, elles sont disponibles également dans un coffret. Depuis 2011 il a une émission sur CNTV, Chaîne Chinoise d’Art.

JAN JACOB BREIN /  AQUARELLIST – SCHILDER – PORTRETTIST 

Jan Jacob Brein ( Nijmegen 1931) ontwikkelde zich na zijn opleiding vooral als aquarellist. In de jaren ’70 en ’80 kwam een kwalitatief hoog en omvangrijk oeuvre tot stand, dat niet alleen culmineerde in vele tentoonstellingen in binnen- en buitenland (o.a. in Nijmegen, Amsterdam, Parijs, Mystic USA, Osaka Japan, Brussel, Venetië en Padua, It.), maar dat ook zijn weg vond in particuliere verzamelingen en in die van overheden en instellingen. Over zijn werk verscheen in 1990 zijn eerste monografie, voornamelijk handelend over de landschappen, die hij in Europa maakte. Later, na zijn emigratie naar Frankrijk, ontwikkelde zijn werk zich in een lyrisch-abstracte richting – in aquarel nog niet vertoond -, dat zijn apotheose vond in een indringende retrospectieve in het Henriëtte Polak Museum in Zutphen in 2001. Bij die gelegenheid werd zijn tweede monografie uitgegeven. Zijn werk kreeg ook internationale waardering getuige de vele prestigieuze prijzen, die hem werden toegekend, waarvan zijn inzending aan het Aquarelmuseum te Albignasego, Italië in 2004 de belangrijkste was en op het thema “Omaggio a Petrarca” met de eerste prijs werd bekroond. Door een insider werd hij eens “De Turner van de 20ste eeuw” genoemd. Exposities in Lissabon, in Bilbao, in Dublin, in vele plaatsen in Frankrijk en in de internationale tentoontelling in het Aquarelmuseum in Mexico stad in 2002, waar hij met twee andere aquarellisten Frankrijk vertegenwoordigde. Erelid van het Institut Européen de l’Aquarelle te Brussel, ereburger van de stad Montgermont. Zijn hele leven heeft hij zich ook beziggehouden met het genre portret, dat als een rode draad door zijn gehele oeuvre loopt vanaf zijn vroege werk in 1950 tot op de dag van vandaag. Er zijn 195 portretten van zijn hand in olieverf, aquarel en tekening, in verschillende materialen. De uitgave van zijn derde monografie op het thema “Portret” heeft inmiddels plaatsgehad in Amsterdam, december 2010 t.g.v. zijn 80ste verjaardag. Deze monografie vormt het sluitstuk van het tryptiek met de twee eerder genoemde monografieën, die ook verkrijgbaar zijn in een cassette. Sinds 2011 heeft hij een programma op CNTV, het Chinese Kunst-kanaal.

Jan Jacob Brein (Nymegen/Netherlands 1931), after his training, developed particularly as a watercolourist. During the seventies and eighties his work grew extensively and achieved a high standard of quality, that not only culminated in many exhibitions at home and abroad (among others in Nymegen, Amsterdam, Paris, Mystic/USA, Osaka/ Japan, Brussels, Venice and Padua/Italy), but also found its way into private collections and those of local authorities and institutes. The first monograph of his work was published in 1990, mainly of landscapes that he painted in Europe. Later on, after he moved to France, his work developed in a lyric-abstract direction – in watercolours not previously exhibited – that found its apotheosis in an impressive retrospective exhibition at the Henriette Polak Museum in Zutphen/NL in 2001. On this occasion, his second monograph was published. His work also gained international appreciation, judging by the many credits that were granted to him, ofwhich his entry of paintings to the Museo dell’Aquarello at Albignasego/Italy in 2004, was the most important and he was awarded the first prizeon the theme “Homage to Petrarch”. An insider described him as “the Turner of the twentieth century”. He also had exhibitions at Lisbon, Bilbao, Dublin, in many places in France, and at the international exhibition at the Museo Nacional de la Acuarela in Mexico City in 2002, where he, with two other watercolourists, represented France. He is also an honorary member of the European Watercolour Institute, at Brussels and a Freeman of the town of Montgermont. Throughout his life he has engaged with the portrait genre, which as a leitmotif runs through his entire work, from his early paintings of 1950 to this day. There are 195 portraits by him in oil, watercolour and drawing, and in mixed media. The edition of his third monograph on the theme “Portrait” has taken place at Amsterdam in december 2010 on the occasion of his 80th anniversary. This third monograph will then form the final part of the triptych with the two aforementioned monographs, they are also available in a case.
